BITTERSWEET LAUNCH ENDS SEVERAL CHAPTERS OF HISTORY

As the day dawned at Cape Canaveral this morning, another Delta 2 rocket
darted into the sky on a satellite deployment mission. But this successful
launch was remarkably different. Instead of bringing joy, there was deep
sadness from the finality bought by the flight.

NASA's Wallops Flight Facility launched a major sounding rocket test of an
inflatable ballutet planetary reentry system at 8:52 a.m. EDT today. A
Black Brant rocket was used to fire the mushroom-shaped experiment vehicle
high above Earth before falling back into the atmosphere.
