[BAA-ebulletin 00973] Still some places for the Spring meeting in April - please book now

Dear All

We still have some places for the Spring One Day Meeting on Saturday 2017
April 29 in Eastbourne.

If you are planning to come but have not booked yet, please book now as the
closing date is 20th April, *we will not be taking any bookings after this
date*.

The meeting is being held in The Birley Centre, Eastbourne, Essex, CM1 7ER.

Doors Open at 10:00 and the meeting will close at 18:00

Planets in our solar system and beyond.

Talks will cover current and future planetary missions and how amateurs can
contribute, either by making observations from the ground or by analyzing
and processing data released into the public domain.

Dr John Rogers – "Jupiter and the Juno mission"

Mr Michael Foulkes – "Amateur observations of Saturn"

Prof David Rothery – "Mercury: new insights into the Sun's closest planet"

Dr Guillem Anglada Escude – 'Proxima b, planets around red dwarfs and the
search for life beyond the Solar System'

Dr Eamonn Kerins – Exoplanet science in the era of many worlds

The cost tea & coffee for registration, lunchtime and afternoon tea £2.00
for BAA/EAS and affiliated society members, £4.00 for non-members and
accompanied children under 16. An optional buffet lunch is available for
£8.00 if booked in advance. Bookings can be made online or using the form
overleaf. We are advised by the local group that it is a good 10 minutes
into town where there are a number of cafes and sandwich places.

[BAA-ebulletin 00971] Part-time opportunity in the BAA Office.

BAA Systems Administrator and Web Content Editor.

We are seeking a self-motivated individual with excellent ITskills to support our existing Office operations, with a particular focus on maintainingour IT systems and our online presence.

This part-time role (nominally 1.5 days per week) will suitsomeone who is both technical and creative. Key aspects of the role includemaintaining the Office computers and assisting the Office staff with IT mattersrelating to the BAA membership database, finance systems and electronic paymentvehicles. The person will also prepare material to promote the benefits of BAAmembership, especially digital publicity. As Web Content Editor, the personwill be responsible for editing and uploading content to the BAA website,including posting articles prepared by Officers, Section Directors and othermembers.

The successful candidate must be familiar with a range of ITsystems, environments and solutions, including maintaining websites andinterfaces between different IT systems, and demonstrate an ability to maintainan online presence using common IT toolsets. An understanding of the aims andobjectives of the BAA and a demonstrated interest in astronomy, particularlyits promotion to the scientifically interested public, is essential.
